Henstone Single Malt Whisky – November 2021

The Whisky:-

An English Single Malt Whisky, mashed, distilled, aged, and bottled at the distillery in the historic market town of Oswestry, North Shropshire.

The wash is produced with barley from Crisp Maltings and brewery yeast from sister company, Stonehouse Brewery. Following fermentation, which can last from seven to ten days, the wash is distilled in two 1000 litre batches in Hilda, Henstone pot/column hybrid still. The resultant new make is then liquored back prior to ageing in ex-Jack Daniel’s casks.

The Distillery:-

Henstone Distillery was established in Oswestry, Shropshire in 2017 by Chris and Alexandra Toller, and Shane and Alison Parr. Shane and Alison also run an established brewery, Stonehouse, and the distillery is currently based at the brewery site. They spent several years planning their venture and after receiving a grant from the Rural Development Programme for England, installed an impressive 1000 litre still, affectionately named Hilda, that was manufactured by Kothe in Germany.

As well as whisky, Henstone produce gin and vodka, something many young distilleries need to do to ensure they have an income whilst waiting for their whisky to come of age.
